What is the Kern EW-N Precision Balance?

The EW-N is a high accuracy, professional top loading balance from Kern. This reliable and robust lab balance uses a tuning fork measurement system to automatically oscillate the unit using electromagnetism.

This laboratory balance includes a number useful weighing functions, including percentage determination, checkweighing within pre-set limits and automatic weight reference optimisation.

With shock-proof ABS plastic casing, high corner load performance and a large 17mm LCD weight display, the EW-N provides reliable weight readings even in more demanding environments. This means you can carry out daily weighing tasks to an accuracy as precise as 0.001g with complete confidence.

The EW-N has an RS-232 interface, as well as weight data record keeping, which makes it GLP/ISO compliant.

What are precision balances used for?

Precision balances are used to weigh items or substances to a very precise number, usually up to 1mg. Precision balances are typically used in laboratory environments, under strict conditions to ensure accurate readings.

Top loading balances, like the Kern EW-N, allow for easy loading of the scale for weighing. You will notice that some precision balances will include a draft shield. This provides extra accuracy in weighing as it protects the weighing area from air currents.

Whilst the EW-N does not necessarily require a draft shield, we recommend, for best performance, using it in a stable environment, and on a sturdy, level surface (such as an anti-vibration table).
